πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Family Pick: Ascott Raffles City Chongqing

My top recommendation for Chongqing is to stay near Jiefangbei CBD, a busy commercial area with tons of street food options.

For a bit of luxury for a very good price, I recommend staying in or opposite the famous Raffles building - Ascott Raffles City Chongqing and InterContinental Raffles City Chongqing are both excellent options, with the first being better suited for families and the latter offering a bit of luxury for slightly higher price.

Until very recently Chongqing has been little known outside of China, it has now become an internet sensation, dubbed a "Cyberpunk" city.

It is a vertical maze where trains pass through apartment buildings, roads are stacked on top of each other, and the 1st floor of one building might be the 11th floor of the building next door.

Because of this unique "8D" geography, choosing where to stay in Chongqing is the most important decision of your trip.

If you pick the wrong location, you will find yourself dragging suitcases up endless flights of stairs in high humidity. If you pick the right location, you’ll have seamless access to the Metro, incredible skyline views, and the city's famous hot pot right at your doorstep.

As I have been lucky to come to Chongqing with very clear recommendations from my Chinese teacher who is originally from there, I have been lucky to avoid the confusion β€” and now I want to help you to find the perfect spot for you.

Whether you are a solo photographer hunting for the right shots or a family needing a hotel with a washing machine and kitchenette, this guide breaks down exactly where to stay.

Chongqing map β€” where to stay
Chongqing map β€” where to stay

Chongqing is massive, but tourists should focus on the three core districts where the Yangtze and Jialing rivers meet.

  1. Yuzhong District (The Peninsula): The heart of the city ("Manhattan"). Where you find Jiefangbei and Hongyadong.
  2. Nan’an District (South Bank): Across the river ("Brooklyn"). Offers the best skyline views.
  3. Jiangbei District (North Bank): The modern financial center. Home to high-end malls and expats.

Our Number One Recommendation

1.Ascott Raffles City Chongqing

Ascott Raffles City Chongqing was recommended to me by my Chinese teacher, who is originally from the city β€” and I am very happy we listened to her. The hotel offers studio apartments for a very good price.

Rooms have great views of the city and the location is super convenient to access all major hot spots. There is an indoor swimming pool and good breakfast buffet.

Families will enjoy themed family rooms and a small kids playground inside.
